World’s Youngest Mother: At the Age of 5 She Gave Birth to a Baby Boy!

The youngest mother on record was a five-year-old girl from Peru. The girl is Lina Medina, born on September 27,1933 in Ticrapo, Peru. She was one of the nine children of her parents Tiburelo Medina, a silversmith, and Victoria Losea. 

Lina Had her first period at the very early age of two and half years. At the age of 5 Lina’s parents noticed that their daughter’s stomach is getting bigger. So they took her to a hospital but no cure was found because the hospital has no modern facilities to detect the cause of growth. Her parents though that Lina’s stomach had a large abdominal tumor.

A month after, her parents noticed her tummy continued to grow, so again they brought her to the hospital in Pisco, Peru. A test revealed that Lina was pregnant and her parents got surprised when the doctor confirmed that she was seventh month pregnant.

Dr. Gerardo Lozada, the physician who discovered that Lina Medina had fully developed (mature) mammary glands and reproductive parts. On investigation, it came to light that Medina had started her periods at the age of two and half years. Further studies showed, that Lina had begun menstruating since she was 8-month-old!

A month and a half after the original diagnosis, Lina Medina at the age of 5 and
seven months gave birth to a boy by Cesarean section on May 14, 1939 and named Gerardo after her doctor.

The child was raised believing that Lina was his older sister and only came to know the truth at the age of 10.

Lina never revealed the identity of the father of her child.  Although, people believed that Lina’s father was the one who got her pregnant. He was father arrested on the suspicions of incest and rape, but later he was released due to lack of evidence. The actual father’s identity is still unknown.

Gerardo died in 1979 at the age of 40 from a disease. Medina worked as a secretary to Dr. Gerardo Lozado in Lima and later she married Raúl Jurado and delivered her second son in 1972.

Currently, Lina Medina and her husband reside in the poor district of Lima famously known as “Chicago Chico,”.
